HUMAIN

Current project

This Horizon Europe project aims to help the Cultural and Creative Industries make considered, human-centred choices around AI in order to strengthen the sector’s preparedness, resilience, and competitiveness as technology continues to advance.

Responding to the Horizon Europe call on Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society, and reacting to the growing presence of AI tools across every sector, HUMAIN seeks to clarify both the opportunities and the challenges to advance a more responsible use of technology in the Cultural and Creative Industries. Drawing on legal, ethical, economic and social analysis, alongside practical use cases from film, fashion and music, the project will identify concrete patterns of AI adoption and trace their implications for cultural production, access and reuse.

Central outcomes of the project include the HUMAIN Toolkit, a practice-based, iterative resource designed to equip CCI stakeholders with practical guidance, frameworks, and tools to integrate ethical, trustworthy, and lawful AI into their workflows. This cross-sectoral collaboration will be anchored by use cases in fashion, film, and music, driving multiple capacity-building opportunities and culminating in the co-creation of tailored tools.

Alongside this, the project will launch the Copyright Navigator: a multilingual, AI-powered legal discovery tool that will synthesize context-aware, citation-backed responses while offering built-in risk-assessment features that highlight legal uncertainties and permission gaps. Moreover, HUMAIN will deliver Policy Recommendations based on sector-specific needs, bringing together cultural professionals, technologists, researchers, and policymakers to ensure AI-driven innovation protects intellectual property, rewards human creativity, and sustains cultural diversity.

Ultimately and throughout all the phases of the project, HUMAIN aims to build a sustainable ecosystem of cross-disciplinary collaborations between artists, CCI professionals, AI developers, and third-party stakeholders for strengthening the sector’s resilience and capacity to adopt ethical, human-centric AI.

As leaders of communication and dissemination activities, we at EFHA are responsible of coordinating editorial content for the HUMAIN’s communication channels, promoting the different outputs of the project on the official website and social media, via the hashtag #HUMAINProject. We are also directly involved in the work with communities, in particular engaging with issues related to AI implementation in fashion curation to ensure a transparent, sustainable and fair use of AI in this sector.
