Beautiful, sustainable, together

We are thrilled to announce that EFHA is now a member of the New European Bauhaus.

The New European Bauhaus is a creative and interdisciplinary initiative, convening a space of encounter to design future ways of living, situated at the crossroads between art, culture, social inclusion, science and technology. Its main aim is to imagine and build a future that is sustainable, inclusive and beautiful.

As EFHA, we abide by the idea that the “crossroads between art, culture, social inclusion, science and technology” is a place where to experiment new ways to build a better future. Being an institution that deals with heritage, we also recognise the value of preserving and communicating the past, as a way to move forward. Sharing our knowledge and understanding of fashion heritage, we want to actively contribute to the discussion of the NEB, introducing it to our core audience made of scholars, museum professionals, curators and students.

We believe that uncovering and sharing the vast wealth of fashion heritage assets stored in public and private museums and archives across Europe is a way to empower institutions and connect them with new audiences. The creation of a network also allows the full valorisation of our shared fashion heritage for work, for study and for fun, fostering a more inclusive, diverse and creative society.

We think that the preservation and valorisation of craftsmanship and the related intangible heritage, connected to textile and fashion, can inspire and foster a more sustainable and fair future for the whole sector: this is what we intend to focus on as new members of NEB. Indeed, we plan to engage in collaborative activities that could better inform the way in which we manage, make available and reuse fashion heritage online, in order to build a more sustainable model in which to operate together.
